The planning application for the building currently housing Iceland and Cargo is now online.

The planning number is CH/2015/2243/FA

The description is | Redevelopment of site to facilitate erection of mixed use building comprising ground floor retail restaurant use (Class A1/A3) with associated access parking, servicing, residential accommodation (Class C3) on first, second and third floor roofspace comprising 35 studio 1 and 2 bed flats, associated access basement parking, private communal amenity space | 67 – 75 Sycamore Road Amersham Buckinghamshire HP6 5EQ

Iceland is closing at the end of December, their lease has run out.  Cargo will it seems close in January / February (as will other Cargo shops as the company is changing its retail offer).  This will leave just the opticians Chilton & Watson.

It is interesting to note the planning application includes use as a restaurant.  The number of flats I would suggest is welcome addition as accommodation is in short supply in Amersham.  The loss of Iceland though will be a blow to many.

The site original was the home to Amersham’s cinema The Regent.  Next door was also a branch of Brandons whose main store in Chesham was a small department store.  In the 1960s the cinema was knocked down and the Maypole super market opened with a large cafe on the first floor.  This turned into Liptons and the cafe was shut.  Iceland took over in I believe 1990.
