A Happy Ending
(Without the Ever After)
Valerie Jack will be talking about the work-in-progress of her creative non-fiction book A Happy Ending (Without the Ever After). It will present a tapestry of voices of the non-religious, exploring how we may find happiness and meaning in the face of mortality. Valerie has spoken to more than 60 non-religious people about their personal experiences of bereavement, life-limiting illness and other confrontations with mortality.
Valerie read English at Oxford and York Universities, and qualified as a teacher at Brunel. She taught at sixth form colleges for 12 years. She had a poetry collection, Educational, published in 2009, and has another in the works. She has written several stage plays, one of which has been produced in London twice.
